Ratangad Fort Maharashtra

This fort is one of the famous tourist attractions of Maharashtra. This is a part of the heritage of Ratanwadi in Maharashtra. The fort is situated in the Western Ghats, and is believed to be 2000 years old. There are 4 gates of this fort, namely, Ganesh Hanuman, Trimbak, and Konkan. It also has a natural rock cavity through which the sky can be seen. It is called Nedhe or eye of the needle. From the fort, the river Pravara or Amrutavahini has originated.

History of the Attraction

The 2000 year old Ratangad fort has a history of its own which makes it one of the must visit places in a Maharashtra tour. It is said that the fort was captured by Chhatrapati Shivaji Raje Bhosle, the famous Maratha king.

Getting There

The nearest railway station from the Ratangad fort is the Igatpuri station, which is about 27 km away. You can also take a 6 km boat ride and 4 km walk to the village of Ratanwadi, and then trek to the fort.

Best time to Visit

If you are on a holiday and already planned out Maharashtra tour, it will be a better idea for you to visit the fort during the winter months as you can enjoy place comfortably. In the rainy season, the trek to the fort can get difficult while summer might be too hot. Therefore, November to February is a good time to visit.
