This historically significant temple is one of the most amazing tourist spots in Nagaon District of Assam. The temple was built during Ahom reign by Pramatta Singh who was an Ahom King. Earlier, in the temple human sacrifices were carried in front of the main deity but now these age old traditions are not continued anymore. The swords and other tools used for sacrifices are preserved in the Guwahati Museum.
The deity, Maa Mahishamardini and the historical temple offer a rich culture and heritage to the visitors. Offering prayers is also another thing which you can do on your visit to Mahishamardini Mandir.
The temple can be reached by frequent buses that operate within the Nagaon district. You can also rent a taxi or take an auto rickshaw to reach the temple.
The best time to visit the temple is during the months of November to March when the weather is very pleasant.
