In the Dima Hasao district of Assam, there is a small industrial town, which is also a well known tourist spot, by the name of Umrangso. The distance between the town and the district headquarters of Dima Hasao, Haflong is about 112 km. The town of Umrangso has a number of big industries such as Kopili Hydro Electric Project of Nepco, along with a few cement factories such as NECEM cements, Vinay cements, etc. The town is a beautiful one with abundance of hills and lush greenery. This is an ideal place to spend a few relaxing days amidst the bounty of the nature. There are a few local eateries, which serve fish and meat to the tourists, though stand-alone restaurants are hard to find. The growth of tourism in the area is a little bit affected by the political situation of the area.

The breathtaking view of the area is the main attraction to the tourist who visit Umrangso. The Hydro Electricity project is also important, and thus visitors also visit the Kopili project. Moreover, there are Garampani (Hotwater) springs; streams with water with medicinal benefits, which is generally flocked by a good number of tourists. The nearby town of Diphu is another added attraction, and houses a botanical garden.

Getting There 

From the Barapani Airport, which is about 225 km away from the town you can take direct cabs to reach Umrangso. Also from Lamding, which is 60 miles away from Umrangso, local transport like buses and taxis are available. Private cars are available to and from Haflong to reach this site as well.

Best Time to Visit

Since this place is situated in the sub tropical region, the summer in this area is quite harsh. The hot and humid weather of summer is followed by incessant rain which makes travelling almost impossible. The best time of year to visit this place is during winter to spring. From October itself the weather becomes cool and comfortable for travelling.
