Thuruk is a small village in the Tehsil or block of Haflong in the district of Dima Hasao of Assam. The town of Haflong is 41 km away from the village of Thuruk, which has about 43 houses. This is perhaps the only place in the state which experiences snowfall in the winter. The place is surrounded by hills, and there are a few trekking trails, which makes it favoured by the trekkers. Getting There
In order to visit Thuruk, you can take a hired car from Haflong town which is 41 km away from Thuruk. The new Haflong station is the closest railway station but the Silchar Railway Station is not too far away either and from both stations you get private buses and cars to reach Thuruk.
Best Time to Visit
In the winter, this area gets very cold and it can snow sometimes. However, the best time to visit this place is during autumn and spring, as the weather of the time is most conducive to travel.
For the trekker, melting snow is also difficult, thus the early summer can also be a good time to take a trekking trip. Monsoon though makes it difficult to trek, and therefore, this season should be best avoided by the tourists intending to visit Thuruk.
