In the Barpeta district of Assam, there is a town called Satherbari. This area is is situated about 90 kms away from Guwahati and well known for the bell metal industry. This place is the second largest handicraft center in whole of Assam. The people in the town are experts and make high quality utensils and other items, such as sarais, ban batis, glasses, plates etc. this is part of the cultural tradition of Assam, which has passed from one generation to the other.
The craft prevailed from a long time but is slowly dying. Thus visiting and buying from this area can be useful for the improvement of this industry.
Getting there is not too difficult because it is well connected with Guwahati through the roads. Taxi is the best means of transportation.
The best time to visit the place is between winter and spring since the weather remains cool and dry. The summer months can be very hot, and thus uncomfortable for a trip.
The monsoon comes with incessant rains at times, which makes travelling quite difficult.
