Cachar Paper Mill, as the name suggests in a paper mill located in Hailakandi district of Assam. It is famous as it is the only industrial undertaking in entire south Assam and nearby districts of Mizoram.
Though there is a lack of adequate of infrastructural support, Cachar Paper Mill has shown steady improvement since its establishment. However, off late, the mill is facing financial issues.
It is located along the banks of River Barak in the census town of Panchgram which happens to be one of the finest townships in Assam.
Panchagram is located near Badarpur and Silchar and while visiting this place, you have the advantage of visiting the tourist spots of these two locations as well.
There is a Shani Mandir near the paper mill that you can visit.
The Badarpur Fort in Karimganj district is only minutes away. It is an age-old fort located on the banks of the river. If you have enough time to spare, you can consider the train ride from Lumding to Silchar. The trains pass through mountains, valleys, and dark tunnels and it’s an experience that you would remember forever.
Panchgram is well-connected via many local state transport systems to nearby cities and towns. Panchgram town has its own railway station and you can avail auto rickshaws to reach the paper mill. Rental cars are available from Hailakandi, Karimganj, and Katakhal to reach the mill directly.
Regular buses are available from nearby districts and town like Guwahati to reach Panchgram mill.
Winter is the best time to visit Cachar Paper Mill. Assam is beautiful during this time and the weather is pleasant as well. Monsoons are unpredictable and landslides are common during this time. Summers are very hot.
