Along with the tea gardens, maidams (literal meaning - 'Mai' means rest and 'dam' means dead person) are what makes Dibrugarh a big highlight on India Tourism. Located in Khowang Tea Estate, Bahikhowa Maidam is a graveyard of Bahikhowa Dasarath Dowerah, an army chief during the Ahom dynasty. Apart from its historical significance, what makes it more charismatic, and mesmerizing is its brilliant framework. Further adding to the brilliance is the peaceful environment.
To reach here, one can take an auto, bus or private taxi from anywhere in the city.
Make a point to visit the Khowang Tea Estate and various other maidans like Lekai Chetia Maidam, and Barbarua Maidam. Dehing Satra, Raidongia Dol, and Radha Krishna Mandir are some of the other worthy places to see.
November to February will be the best to visit Bahikhowa Maidam as the weather is mild, and one can enjoy a good variety of activities.
