Another beautiful place in Assam which will steal your breath is Dibru Saikhowa National Park. The place is 12km north from Tinsukia town in Assam. It is surrounded by rivers like Brahmaputra and Lohit in the north while Dibru River surrounds it from south. The park is situated in the district of Dibrugarh and Tinsukia of Assam. It is mainly a combination of moist mixed-semi deciduous forest, moist mixed-semi evergreen forest, grassland and canebrakes and is also the largest salix swamp forest in the north east India. The park is situated in the flood plains of the Lohit and the Brahmaputra Rivers at an altitude of 118m above sea level and is a haven for many endangered specie; and has a rich fish diversity because of auto stocking by Dibru and Brahmaputra Rivers.

The park is home to many amazing species of animals, birds and other creatures like white-winged wood duck, water buffalo, black-breasted parrot bill, capped langur, tiger and many more. It has eco-lodges for people to stay while they visit the park.

There are many things to do and see in and around the Dibru-Saikhowa national Park like going through a safari of evergreen forests and deciduous forests around. You can also catch the glimpse of grasslands, serene Brahmaputra River and Dibru River. Canebrakes and a huge range of Flora like Dillenia indica, Bombax ceiba, Ficus and many more can be viewed here. Wide varieties of Fauna like royal Bengal Tiger, jungle cat, Chinese pangolin, slow loris, Asian elephant and many more species of reptiles and birds like purple heron, Bengal florican, grey heron and many more can be found here.

Getting There

Mohanbari is the nearest airport from the park which is 40 km away and nearest railway station is Tinsukia. Buses are also available for the people to travel comfortably. Both public and private buses run on regular basis.

Best Time to Visit

Dibru-Saikhowa has tropics monsoon climate and has a wet and hot summer and a dry and cool winter. Best time to visit the park is during the month of February to May and October and November. Rest of the year it is either too hot or its raining. During summer seasons like in the month of June and August the temperature is 34°C but it also rains during that season.
