Punakha Tshechu Festival Package 2021

To see the best side of Bhutan, there can be no better time to visit than the annual Tshechus (festivals). Offering a glimpse of Bhutan’s rich culture and its impact in the lives of the Bhutanese people, Tshechus is the easiest and the most fun-filled way to learn about this happy country. In our 6N/7D Punakha Tshechu tour, we invite you to be part of one of the most important Tshechus in the country, Punakha Tshechu. Celebrated to commemorate and honour Guru Rinpoche who introduced the Tantric Buddhism in Bhutan, Punakha Tshechu is a grand event which will give you a chance to witness the various forms of folk dances including the famous Cham Dance (mask dance).

Our 6N/7D Punakha Tshechu tour begins from the capital city, Thimphu where you will have the chance to visit the National Memorial Chorten and Folk Heritage Museum, Sangaygang View Point, Changangkha Monastery, and Takin Preserve Centre. In this Bhutan Tour, you will also be able to witness the iconic Tiger’s Nest Monastery (Paro Taktsang) in Paro. On the other hand, in Punakha, where the grand festival takes place, apart from witnessing the celebration, you will have the chance to appreciate the architectural beauty of Punakha Dzong, the natural beauty of the surroundings as well as the enthusiasm of the locals. This memorable trip will conclude with visiting one of the oldest monasteries in Bhutan, Kyichu Monastery near Paro.

Festival Dates: FEBRUARY 20, 2021

DAY 1: FLY TO PARO / PARO – THIMPHU (FEBRUARY 20, 2021)

Upon arrival at the Paro International Airport, our representative will meet you and drive you to Thimphu, the capital city of Bhutan. During the drive, you will start to notice the unique Bhutanese architecture and lifestyle with many people wearing traditional clothes ‘Gho’ (menwear) and ‘Kira’ (womenwear). The drive from Paro to Thimphu takes about one hour. After reaching Thimphu, hotel check-in. Later, visit the Buddha viewpoint, Kuensel Phodrang (Buddha Statue), and Tashichhoedzong.

DAY 2: THIMPHU (FEBRUARY 21, 2021)

After breakfast, visit the National Memorial Chorten and Folk Heritage Museum. Post lunch, visit Sangaygang View Point, Changangkha Monastery, and Takin Preserve Centre.

DAY 3: THIMPHU – PUNAKHA (FEBRUARY 22, 2021)

After breakfast, drive to Punakha. On the way, stop at Dochu-La-Pass for sighting peaks like Masangang, Tsendagang, Terigang and Gangkar Puensum (the highest unclimbed mountain in Bhutan) and the 108 chorten.

After reaching Punakha and hotel check-in, we will trek to Chimi Lhakang through the agricultural fields of rice and mustard to access the monastery that is also known as the Fertility Temple. It is one of the oldest monasteries in Bhutan.

DAY 4: PUNAKHA TSECHU (FEBRUARY 23, 2021

After breakfast, the full day will be dedicated to Punakha Tshechu. Join the locals in their annual Tshechu Festival. You will have the opportunity to interact with the Bhutanese people and hear stories about the festival. This will also be your chance to take their pictures, however, please ask for their permission before clicking photos. Enjoy the Mask Dance by the Buddhist Monks and the local traditional songs and dance by the local people of Punakha District.

DAY 5: PUNAKHA – PARO (FEBRUARY 24, 2021)

Post breakfast, drive to Paro. On the way stop at Lamperi to visit Royal Botanical Park. Upon arrival in Paro, hotel check-in and in the afternoon visit Ta Dzong – National Museum and Rinpung Dzong. Evening will be free.

DAY 6: PARO – HIKE TO TIGER NEST MONASTERY (FEBRUARY 25, 2021)

After the breakfast, hike to the famous Paro Taktsang or the Tiger’s Nest Monastery which is one of the most popular tourist attractions in Paro. The monastery can be reached by trekking. Later, visit Drukgyel Dzong and Kyichu Monastery.

DAY 7: LEAVE PARO (FEBRUARY 26, 2021)

After breakfast, check out from hotel and head to Paro International Airport for your onward journey.
