The North-Sikkim, is the least explored part of Sikkim, thus abundant in natural treasures which is mostly untouched. Green lake is one of such treasures that resides at an altitude of 1437 m, offering the stunning views of Kanchenjunga and other magnificent peaks. The meandering path through the rocky terrains that reaches many adventure enthusiasts to this dazzling lake, is bestowed with life’s best sight of the dense forest accompanied by the rich meadows of blue poppies, primulas, and variety of rhododendrons. And once you reach at the top, the soft mountain breeze enthrill you and revitalizes you from the weary city life.
What To Do And See
Adventure lovers visiting the Green Lake can also visit the Chopta valley, Thangu Valley as well as Gurudongmar lake that also carries religious significance. For the peace seekers, the Lachen Monastery which is just 4 km from Lachen Village; the base for starting the trek to Green Lake, definitely makes for a must visit. Then, explore the forty species of rhododendron trees nurturing in the Shingba Rhododendron Sanctuary, which is located just 22 km from Lachen Village.
Getting There
Lachen is about 6-7 hours long scenic drive from Gangtok. After reaching Lachen, enjoy the 20 min drive towards Zema from where the trek starts to Green Lake, crossing Tallem and Jakthang.
Best Time To Visit
Summer season, that covers the months from March till May, offers the pleasant climate to visit high altitude Green lake, and the rhododendrons are also found in full bloom along the trek.
