Reckoned to be the highest lake in India, Cholamu Lake is situated at a dizzying height of 5330 m. This surreal lake is also a short distance away from the Indo-Tibet Border, and thus permits are required for visiting. Cholamu, being tucked away in the North Sikkim region, is lesser explored, and thus its beauty remains intact.
The lake is situated some 80 kms from Lachen, which is the base for getting the taxi for this place.
The lake is purely for nature lovers, who would love to lose themselves in the beauty of it. Photography is of course the best thing to do here. Since, Cholamu Lake is at a short distance away from Gurudongmar Lake, one must visit it as well.
The months of May, June and October are ideal to visit Cholamu Lake. The roads are clear and the weather is also pleasantly warm then.
