Summer Temperature range: 5°C to 25°C (March to June)

The weather in Sikkim is pleasant and comfortable during the summers. It is not extremely cold. The flora, fauna, indeed the entire landscape comes to life. Monsoons arrive in Sikkim in July and last till August. There is heavy rainfall, leading to landslides, particularly in North Sikkim. Although the rains begin from late June, by July there are regular heavy downpours. The temperature also drops down by quite a bit. But it’s a wonderful time to visit the waterfalls, which suddenly come to life. One of the most famous of these is the Seven Sisters Waterfall. It’s also a good time to enjoy birding. The festival of Tsungkar Tshechu is held in July. It’s dedicated to Guru Padmasambhava, Sikkim’s guardian deity. It is marked by special prayers and cham dances. South and West Sikkim are also great for visiting during the monsoons.

Autumn Temperature range: 15°C to 20°C (September to October)

To enjoy the autumn, visit North Sikkim. The clear weather offers you clear views of the Khangchendzonga mountain range. It’s the world’s third highest peak. It’s a wonderful time to go sightseeing in North, South, East & West Sikkim. Trekking and hiking in North Sikkim is fairly common. Some of the festivals celebrated are Diwali, Dussehra and Lhabab Duchen. The latter celebrates Buddha’s descent from Heaven to Earth.

Winter Temperature range: 4°C to 7°C (November to February)

Winters in Sikkim can be unbelievably cold. The temperature plummets to as low as 4°C. The signs of winter begin to appear in November itself. It’s a wonderful time to go sightseeing. The change in the landscape is quite visible. You can visit the Nathu La Pass in November. West and South Sikkim are top attractions during this time, mainly for sightseeing. North Sikkim receives heavy snowfall during December.

The temperature often drops to subzero. The famous Gurudongmar Lake is partially frozen. South Sikkim, with its relatively flat land landscape, is an attractive option. Come January, and you come across frozen lakes, regular snowfall & a snowy world. North Sikkim receives the heaviest snowfall.
