Standing tall in Koyananagar region, Bhairavgad is a gigantic fort that is believed to be 2500 years old. Long back, the fort was gently fallen into ruins, the reasons of which is not known. It is situated in the middle of the dense forest called Kalsubai-Harishchandragad Wildlife Sanctuary. And that's perhaps the why it surrounded by big trees and barely visible from a distance.
For the purpose of sightseeing, there is a beautifully embellished temple, which features the idol of Goddess Bheri, Goddess Tula, and Shree Vaghjai. Right across it, there is another temple sacred to Lord Shiva. Also, there are couples of lakes and bastions. View of the Kalsubai-Harishchandragad Wildlife Sanctuary from the fort is exciting.
One needs to trek a lot to reach the Bhairavgad Fort. There are two routes - one is to ascend from Konkan, another one is from Ramghal of Helwak. Buses are available to reach the base of the hill on which the fort is located.
The location of the Bhairavgad Fort is itself a class apart. One can go for a jungle trek in and around the fort.
