The zig –zag roads and high –altitude hiking trails of Himachal Pradesh lead to a fantastic pilgrimage site where stories from the Sikhs epics are set: Paonta Sahib. It is the holiest Sikh shrine in Himachal Pradesh; pilgrims arrive here to pay reverence to the tenth Sikh Guru, Guru Gobind Singh and the Sikh leader Banda Bahadur. The holy town is located on the boulevards of the river Yamuna in Sirmour district of Himachal Pradesh. On a religious trip to Paonta Sahib, tourist can explore the Paonta Sahib Gurudwara, Gurudwara Shergarh Sahib, Assan Lake and many ancient temples.
The main attraction of the religious town is the Paonta Sahib Gurudwara. It is the place where Guru Gobind Singh wrote the pious Dasam Granth. The Gurudwara got its name either from the facts that Guru Gobind Singh ji set his foot here or just because he lost his ornament in the River Yamuna which he used to wear on his feet. A Gurudwara was later constructed, and one can see some of the belongings of Guru ji here even today. Within the walls of the Gurudwara, there is a famous museum, which exhibits various priced possessions of Sikh Guru's like antiques and weapons.
Located at a distance of about 12 km from starlit Gurudwara Paonta Sahib is the Gurudwara Shergarh Sahib. The Gurudwara is a symbol of courage as this was the place where Guru Gobind Singh ji beheaded a man-eater with a single stroke of his sword. Nearby the Gurudwara Paonta Sahib is the Khodri Dak Patthar, a beautiful park with a swimming pool and a mansion. Patanjali Jyotirlinga Temple and Patanjali Jyotirlinga temple are some of the distinguished shrines which are worth a visit on a trip to Paonta Sahib. This tiny hamlet has become the talk of the town for the fact that major companies of India have established their industrial unit here, ranging from manufacturers of pharmaceuticals.
Multiple stories and fables are associated with the fabulous town of Paonta Sahib. One of the most revered religious destinations in India, the tranquil aroma prevailed here can soothe the mind and soul of the every traveller.
