Malanada Duryodhana Temple located at Alumkadavu village in the Kollam district is dedicated to Duryodhana, the anti-hero of epic Mahabharata. Malanada Kettukazhcha is a spectacular event which is a part of the annual festival of this temple. People from different areas of the state visit the shrine to watch this colorful event. This one-day annual festival is celebrated in the month of March. Kettukazhcha is a very fascinating sight in which decorated structures are taken out to the accompaniment of traditional orchestra of drums. Even though this temple is devoted to Duryodhana, it has no idol or a sanctum sanctorum, which is a unique feature of this temple. The poojas of it are done by a priest belonging to the Kurava community. It is believed that people of this community gave food and shelter to Duryodhana when he was in search of Pandavas during their exile.
