History of Chapel of Our Lady of the Mount

The history of Chapel of Our Lady of the Mount states that it was a site from where Adil Shah positioned his artillery against the Portuguese forces to retake Goa in 1510. When Afonso de Albuquerque defeated Adil Shah, he vowed to construct a church at this place to mark his victory. The church was then constructed in 1519.

Architecture of Chapel of Our Lady of the Mount

The architecture of Chapel of Our Lady of the Mount is of Mannerist style. The roof of the church is made of Mangalore tiles. Its facade resembles that of Se Cathedral to which once this chapel was subordinate.
