Thiksey Monastery Ladakh

The beauty of Thiksey Monastery is beyond one's imagination. Tucked in the vicinity of Ladakh, this famous tourist attraction in Leh-Ladakh is located 20 kilometres from the main hub. More or less, this place looks like a kingdom on top of a hill. The complex houses a number of thankas, stupas, wall paintings and statues in the twelve storied building. This must visit attraction also has a museum which carefully treasures many sacred items. You can also find a large pillar engraved with the Buddha's teachings and a 15 meter high Buddha statue at the main prayer hall.

Getting There

Thiksey Monastery is located 20 kilometres from Leh and to reach the attraction in Leh, one has to hire a cab to take you in and around the place. Besides, the city can be reached from Srinagar and Manali if you come via roadways; they have good bus and cab facilities with to and from services.

Best time to visit

The best time to visit this magnificent Thiksey Monastery is during summers from April to July. During this time the weather remains calm and pleasant; however, winters from October to March can also be a good time to visit if you enjoy the view of snowy hill tops and surroundings.


Thiksey Monastery remains open from 6:00 am to 1:00 pm and 1:30 pm to 6:00 pm. This monastery is closed during festival and the month of October and November.
