Information About Museum of Christian Art Goa

Located in the convent of Santa Monica, Museum of Christian Art is one of its kind in India as well as Asia. It was founded in the year 1994 by INTACH (Indian National Trust for Art and Cultural Heritage) with assistance from the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation, Portugal and under the auspices of the Archdiocese of Goa.

The museum exhibits a vast collection ranging from richly embroidered vestments to chalices to sacred receptacles made of precious metals to carved ivory to paintings and statuary. The most unique thing to notice about the Museum of Christian Art is that the most of the collection here is created by local artists and artisans, many of whom were traditional Hindu artists.
