A serene white temple greets you at Katra before making your way to the Mata’s holy cave. This religious site is known as Charan Paduka, which is believed to be the place Mata Vaishno Devi/Vaishnavi halted to check if she was still being chased by Bhairon Nath, the disciple of Mahayogi Guru Goraksh Nathji.
According to the legend, while escaping from Bhairon Nath towards the caves in the Trikuta Hills, Mata Vaishno Devi came to a halt at a place where one can still see her footprints on a rock slab.
This temple is a short distance away from Banganga River and Bridge. It was earlier a small shrine but now it has been transformed into a scenic one.
For the devotees of Mata Vaishno Devi Yatra, Charan Paduka is an important spot where they seek the blessings of the Mother Goddess to carry on the pilgrimage. Paying homage at this temple in Katra is symbolic to touching the feet of the goddess to seek her blessings.
