Tamil Nadu witnessed the maximum number of domestic tourists last year, which made it rank first in the list of most visited Indian states. And the state ranks second after Maharashtra when it comes to foreign tourists’ footfall in India. The information was rolled out by a tourism official of Tamil Nadu State on Wednesday in Jaipur and clearly testifies that tourism in Tamil Nadu is all time high.
There are many popular tourist attractions in Tamil Nadu that have started catching the fancy of both domestic & foreign tourists. And positive word-of-mouth is doing wonders for these local attractions
According to H S Meena, Commissioner and Managing Director of Tamil Nadu Tourism, a total of 2,442 lakh domestic tourists came to the southern state in 2013 as compared to 1,841 lakh in 2012. He also said that 39 lakh foreign tourists came to Tamil Nadu in 2013 as compared to 35 lakh in 2012. H S Meena also gave another figure revealing that 17 per cent of the total foreign tourists landing in India come to Tamil Nadu.
On this achievement, Principal Secretary of Tourism of Rajasthan, Shailendra Agrawal said Rajasthan and Tamil Nadu Tourism Department could enter a collaboration, which will help in exchanging tourists on incentive basis through certified tour agencies.
Mr. Agarwal came up with this proposal to remove touts and middlemen so that the tourism industry of Rajasthan could grow faster and generate more revenue for the state.
Let us see whether Tamil Nadu will accept the offer or not.
