Dungarpur is a holiday destination in Rajasthan which has risen to fame because of its royal residences and architectural palaces. At about a distance of 3km from Dungarpur is a village named Surpur where you have the famous Surpur temple which is often visited by the tourists. It is an ancient shrine which is located on the banks of the Gangdi River. There is a huge ghat near the temple premises which is considered very holy. The temple has beautiful carving work on it which makes it very attractive and depicts the history of Dungarpur. The work of art reflecting on the temple walls is an example of the fantastic form of art practiced by the artisans of those times. This temple is a combination of many old temples which were constructed many centuries ago but still hold the heritage of the older times.
History of the Attraction
Dungarpur was founded in the 13th century under the reign of the Rajput rulers. Slowly many palaces, forts and temples were constructed here which developed the city more and more.

The Dungarpur Railway Station is nearest to the Surpur temple. From here several taxis and buses are available which help you in reaching the temple. The tourists can also take a flight to the Udaipur airport and then avail any local transportation to reach the temple.

The Surpur temple has many other attractions near it which include the Madhavrai Temple Group, Bhulbhulaiya and several domes which are a must see on your trip to this place. Hathiyon Ki Agad is another popular place here.
