Shiva Temple Palampur

Baijnath Temple is a very famous Shiva Temple near Palampur. This holy shrine is believed to have been constructed in 13th century by two merchants named Ahuka and Manyuka. In the temple, Lord Shiva is commemorated in the form of Vaidyanath and worshipped in the form of Linga. The water of the temple is also popular amongst devotees as it has medicinal properties.

The temple is built in the North Indian style of architecture called Nagara. However, influence of Orissan style is also evident in the architecture, giving this temple a unique look. The outer walls of the shrine have a large number of alcoves with images of Hindu gods and goddesses. After the renovation in 20th century by Raja Sanasar Chand, lush green gardens have been added to the temple complex making it look more attractive. Shiv Ratri is the best time to visit this temple.

History: According to Hindu mythology, Ravana worshipped Lord Shiva in this temple. As per history, prior to the construction of this temple, there was yet another Shiva temple existed here.
