Botanical Garden Pondicherry
The gorgeous fountains, Japanese rocks, a large aquarium with beautiful fishes, a stunning children’s train and a dancing fountain, the Botanical Garden in Pondicherry is indeed a blissful place for the travellers of all ages, especially for kids. Founded by C.S. Perrottet in the year 1826, this oval-shaped Botanical Garden is spread over 11 hectares of land and is reckoned to be one of the most frequented tourist destinations in Pondicherry, mainly because of the exquisite floral species that compel tourists from far and wide. Initially, it was established with an aim to carry out the study on various cultivated plants. From its inception, the place has undergone into the authority of many botanists. However, in 1954, the responsibility of maintaining this garden was handed over to the Department of Agriculture. Since then, it is serving as one of the top tourist attractions of Pondicherry. At present, the Botanical Garden has a rich collection of various species of trees and plants. The plantation at Botanical Garden in Pondicherry consists of indigenous trees that include both deciduous and evergreen species. A diverse collection of trees can be seen here with different flower colors, fruit production, height, leaf shedding and the shape of crowns and periods of flowering. The compelling sight of rich greenery gives an immense joy and pleasure to all the nature buffs while being here at Botanical Garden in Pondicherry.
Besides the exotic flora, this popular travel place in Pondicherry also has some other enthralling features that equally fascinate tourists. The recently established Musical Fountain is one of the highlights of Botanical Garden; the exquisite sight of the water springing out in multi-color in different and beautiful shapes and patterns is something from which one can’t really get his eyes off. Especially for children, the park has Lotus fountain along with a midget train which gives a joy ride to them. For all the knowledge seekers, an annual Flower Show is also organized at the park where almost all kinds of flowers are exhibited. This flower show is very much popular amongst natives and hence, they also referred to as ‘Flower Festival’. Besides, a number of other events and activities are also observed at the Botanical Garden in Pondicherry. Apart from this, the other main features of the park include an office-cum-interpretation centre, thematic garden, conservatory and cactus succulents house.

Botanical Garden in Pondicherry remains open all days from 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM.
There is no entry fee to enter the garden. However, one has to pay a certain amount for the train ride and aquarium sightseeing.
