The Debrigarh Wildlife Sanctuary is unique in a way that it has historical as well as natural significance. It is supposed to be the jungle where freedom fighter Surendra Sai hid from the British while he planned his rebellion. Home to the endangered four-horned antelope, the sanctuary also has tigers, bison, hyena, leopards, monitor lizards and much more. The terrain in the Sunabeda Wildlife Sanctuary is magnificent with canyons, waterfalls and a vast plateau. This terrain is also home to leopards, tigers, gaurs, barking deer, sloth bears and langurs as well as rhesus monkeys.

If its elephants you want to see, head straight to Kotagarh which is home to these majestic creatures along with tigers and antelopes. It is the perfect destination for anyone who wants to go off the beaten track since it’s not as prominent as some of its contemporaries. The Mahanadi flows through the Satkosia Tiger Reserve and in doing so offers up a stunning vista of hills, forests and gorges. There are about a dozen tigers here along with leopards, elephants, wild dogs, sambhar and giant squirrels, but the main attraction of the sanctuary is the large number of mugger crocodiles and gharials that can be found. If you want to add an extra thrill to your wildlife tour, you’ll definitely want to visit Satkosia. The Gahirmatha Marine Sanctuary is the only marine sanctuary in Odisha where you can find the Olive Ridley turtles. These turtles come here every year to mate and breed on the beaches all the way from the South Pacific Ocean. The sanctuary is a great way to combine a beach holiday with some marine sightseeing. Odisha has a vast natural heritage and its variety can be stunning. If you’re planning a trip to Odisha, make sure that you visit one of these or more wildlife destinations.
