Septoplasty Surgery Cost Guide India

Septoplasty is a surgical procedure to fix the deviated or deformed nasal septum (a bony and cartilaginous structure between the nostrils). A deviated septum may obstruct one side of the nose and disrupt the airflow, thereby leading to difficulty in breathing.

Septoplasty could be the best way to reposition and straighten the nasal septum; this improves airflow through the nose and facilitates breathing. In some cases, septoplasty is performed with a rhinoplasty (a surgery for correcting and reconstructing the nose) for cosmetic concerns.

Septoplasty – Eligibility

Septoplasty is recommended for patients who:

  • Have a deviated septum which may be due to an injury or a birth defect.

  • Have difficulty in breathing through the nose.

  • Experience chronic nose bleeds due to excessive drying of the nose.

  • Want to repair the hole in the nasal septum.

  • Snore excessively while sleeping.

Septoplasty – The Procedure

Septoplasty is usually carried under general anesthesia. However, the type of anesthesia and duration of the surgery depends on the complexity of the condition. In most cases, the duration of septoplasty is about 30 to 90 minutes.

During the procedure, a small incision is made on one side of the nose to access the septum. The nasal mucosal lining is then lifted away from the septum on the other side, and the deviation in the cartilage is corrected by moving it into the midline position. Barriers, such as extra pieces of bone or cartilage, are also removed. Finally, the incision inside the nose will be closed with an absorbable suture. Soft silicone splints may be inserted inside each nostril to support the septum. These splints are removed the next day after the surgery. You will be able to go home later that day. A total of five to seven days may be needed for the surgery and its recovery thereafter.
