Auli Bugyal Uttarakhand
The Auli Bugyal is a meadow (Bugyal means Meadow), which lay sprawling in the Chamoli District of Uttarakhand. This meadow invites nature lovers and adventurists alike to enjoy fine powder skiing as well as unparalleled beauty of nature in Garhwal region of the state. Auli, which is situated at a distance of 15kms from Joshimath (An important halt for Badrinath pilgrimage) has been bestowed with an extensive treeless meadow that has undulating slopes and is carpeted with flower-strewn grass patchworks (in summer). The gorgeous-looking meadow is situated at an elevation of about 2744m above the sea level and offers a spectacular vista of Nanda Devi, Kamet and Dunagiri Peaks. Be it skiing (in winter season), camping, trekking or holiday getaway, the verdant meadow adds to the charm making it just the right place to visit.
In summer season, the meadows become a perfect place to enjoy hiking and gloriously basking in the sun. It is also the time to take pleasure watching the distant range of mountains that are often snow-clad. Camping is an ideal activity in Auli Bugyal that one can possibly think of. Pitching tent amidst the lush green meadow with such a beautiful surrounding of lofty mountains and sleeping on the velvet soft grass under the star-studded is certainly a perfect idea for holiday in Auli.
In winter, thick layer of about 3m deep snow covers the Bugyal and then its undulated slopes convert into ideal skiing gradients. The stretch of 3kms with a drop in 500m of altitude is offered to the skiers who come here to enjoy fine powder skiing from across the world. In other words this hilly resort in Uttarakhand becomes a bustling tourist attraction during the winters. The Bugyal is connected with a 500m ropeway system that helps the skiers getting to the top of the slope.
There are two prominent treks that pass through Auli. The Gorson Bugyal Trek and Kuari Pass Trek are both winter treks that cross through the meadow of Auli. Where Gorson Bugyal is a short (3kms) trek that let one acclimatize to the chilly weather, the trek to Kuari Pass is more of a challenge. The Auli Bugyals offer the right reflection of how much more the trekking trails are going to get further. Crossing through it gives trekkers the sense of how beautiful the entire region is.
