Tourist Attractions in Udaipur

Located in the southern region of the Indian state Rajasthan, Udaipur is one of the best tourism places in India. The City is famous for its palaces, lakes, temples, gardens, bazaars and museums that narrate a rich story of a royal life. The city was built by Rana Udai Singh II of Mewar.

Built on the banks of the beautiful Lake Pichola, the City Palace is one of the popular tourist attractions for it was the home to the royal family of Mewar. Major portions of this palace have been converted into a museum. The palace is located in the heart of Udaipur and is close to Jagdish Temple which again is one of the must see places in Udaipur. It is a beautiful Hindu Temple and an explicit example of maru-gurjara architecture.

Other palaces that one must visit during their stay in this city are the romantic Lake Palace situated in an island on Lake Pichola which has been converted into a luxury hotel; Jagmandir, which is another palace situated on an island and the Monsoon palace or the Sajjan Garh hilltop palace which gives a panaromic view of the dazzling city.

The top sightseeing places in Udaipur also includes Lake Pichola and Fateh Sagar Lake, both of which are artificial lakes built by members of the royal family. A walk along the banks of the lakes or the boat ride and camel ride at Dudh Talai are some of the best things to do in Udaipur. One can also enjoy puppet shows, the famous tribal ghoomar dance and festivals such as Mewar festival, Gangaur festival, Shilpgram utsav in the city.

Apart from the Jagdish Temple, people can also experience the thrilling ropeway ride to Karni Mata temple situated near Dudh Talai. The famous Kesariyaji Temple and Eklingji temple also adds up to the mystic beauty of the place. Moti Magri is also famous as it is a memorial to the great Rajput king and warrior Maharana Pratap.

Udaipur has beautiful gardens like Gulab Bagh which has various types of roses, thus the name. The Nehru Island garden and Saheliyon-ki-bari are also amongst the best places to visit in Udaipur. The City of Lakes also has many ancient bazaars where handicrafts or handloom products are available in plenty. The Shilpgram museum helps to develop handicrafts, terracotta, handloom produce in the region.

The Ahar museum is one of its kind where one can see snowy domes as it was the cremation ground of the Mewar royal family. Udaipur also has a Solar observatory which is said to be the best in Asia. The Sajjan Garh Wildlife Sanctuary also attracts the adventurous tourists.

Nearby places of interest include the Chittorgarh fort and the Kumbalgarh fort which are within short distances from the city. Kumbalgarh also has a wild life sanctuary where one can sight many endangered species. The sanctuary is also home to many beautiful birds. Jungle safari or horse rides are available for tourists.
