Along with that, the park also houses an effigy of Joseph Francois Dupleix which is the main attraction of this place. From 1742 to 1754, Joseph Francois Dupleix was the governor of Pondicherry. The statue is located in the southern end of the park on Goubert Avenue. The total height of the statue is 2.88 m. However, the origin of this popular statue dates back to 1870 by the French Government after recognizing him for his work. The late governor played a significant part in establishing French rule in India. As a result of that, another statue was also installed in France. Because of its much hype, the statue of Dupleix serves as a separate tourist attraction in Pondicherry which is visited by numerous tourists, both locals and internationals. On a whole, Children’s Park & Dupleix Statue are those tourist sites in Pondicherry that one can’t afford to miss out.
