Rhinoplasty Surgery in India

Rhinoplasty, sometimes referred to as a "nose job”, is a surgical procedure for correcting and reconstructing the nose to enhance the facial harmony and the proportions. It is also done for medical reasons – repair nasal deformities from an injury, correct a birth defect or improve breathing difficulties.

Am I a good candidate for rhinoplasty?

Ideally, girls should be at least 15 or 16 years before having rhinoplasty; boys should be at least 17 or 18 years. However, to treat respiratory problems, it can be done at any age.

You may be a good candidate for rhinoplasty if:

  • Your facial growth is complete
  • You are physically fit
  • You are a non-smoker
  • You have a positive outlook and realistic goals in mind for the improvement of your appearance

How should I prepare for rhinoplasty?

Before the procedure, the surgeon will review the medical history of the patient. A physical examination and certain laboratory tests are recommended to know the overall health of the person.  Additionally, the surgeon will take a few photographs of your nose from different angles for reference during the surgery and also for assessing the results of surgery.

Rhinoplasty – The procedure

The following are the main techniques for rhinoplasty:

  • Closed Rhinoplasty:  This is a less invasive method preferred in mild reshaping or when the tip of the nose is being addressed.
  • Open Rhinoplasty:  This technique allows a better view and access to the structures inside the nose. There will be a very minor scar below the nose. The incision is made across the columella, the narrow strip of tissue that separates the nostrils.

The surgery is done under local or general anaesthesia. Now, the surgeon will make an incision on the columella or across the base of the nose. The skin is pulled back and the bones, cartilage and tissue within the nose are exposed allowing access to reshape the structure of the nose. If the septum is deviated, it can be straightened to improve breathing. Once the underlying structure of the nose is sculpted to the desired shape the incisions are closed.

Rhinoplasty is usually done as an outpatient procedure. It takes about 1.5 to 3 hours. In some cases, one-day hospital stay is required. A stay of seven to 10 days is needed for undergoing rhinoplasty in India.
