Blepheroplasty (Eye Lids) Surgery in India

Blepharoplasty or double eyelid surgery or eyelift surgery is a type of procedure that repairs droopy eyelids and reduces bagginess from lower eyelids. This is done by removing the excess skin, muscle, and fat tissue in that area. Blepharoplasty is performed to improve vision where sagging upper eyelids obstruct their sight, or to improve the aesthetics of the individual. This procedure can be performed along with other procedures like face-lift, brow lift, or skin resurfacing.

Eligibility criteria for Blepharoplasty

Blepharoplasty is recommended for patients with:

  • Droopy or baggy upper eyelids.
  • Sagging skin of the upper eyelids, which may impair peripheral vision.
  • Fine wrinkles and excess skin on the lower eyelids.
  • Fatty deposits giving a puffy-look of the eyelids.
  • Bags under eyes.
  • Droopy lower eyelids that expose the white part below the iris.
  • No medical conditions that can affect the healing process.
  • No habit of smoking.
  • A positive outlook and has realistic expectations.
  • No serious eye conditions.

The Procedure of Blepharoplasty

Blepharoplasty is usually performed on an outpatient basis; it takes about 1-2 hours if both eyelids are done at the same time. The duration of the procedure depends on whether the fat is repositioned, or any other procedures are done.

A numbing medication is injected into the eyelids, and an intravenous medication is administered to help the patient relax. If the surgery must be performed on both the eyelids, the surgeon may prefer to work on the upper lids first. A cut is made along the fold of the eyelid, then the excess skin, muscle, and fat tissues are removed, and the cut is closed.

On the lower lid, a cut is made inside the lower eyelid or below the lashes along the eye's natural crease. The sagging skin, excess fat, and muscle is either removed or redistributed, and the cut is closed.
