Arm Lift Surgery in India

An arm lift surgery or brachioplasty is a type of cosmetic surgery done to tighten the underlying supportive tissue that defines the shape of the upper arm. This procedure involves removal of excess of skin, tissue, and fat from the back of the upper arm, from the underarm region to the elbow. This reshapes the upper arm and gives a more toned and defined look.

Who is a good candidate for arm lift surgery?

Arm lift is not an appropriate treatment option for everyone. People who are physically unfit, smokers, drinkers, drug addicts or those with chronic medical conditions are not eligible for this procedure.

Candidates for arm lift surgery should:

  • Be above the age of 18 years.
  • Be concerned about upper arm skin laxity.
  • Want to tighten up the loose skin resulted from weight loss.
  • Be aware about possible adverse effects, including permanent scarring.
  • Have no medical conditions that impair healing.

How is arm lift surgery performed?

During the first visit, the medical history is reviewed, and a physical examination and routine blood tests are performed to check your general health status. Once the surgery is planned, you will receive a set of instructions to help avoid complications during and after the surgery. These instructions may include:

  • Temporary discontinuation of certain medications like aspirin, ibuprofen etc.
  • Smoking cessation if you smoke.
  • Food restriction the night before surgery.

On the day of surgery, the surgeon will mark certain points to indicate the site of incisions.

After the administration of general anesthesia the following steps are involved:

  • An incision on the previously marked area of the arm.
  • Removal of excess fat by using a direct method or liposuction.
  • Tightening of the underlying tissue and suturing it to give a firm and smooth contour.
  • Closure of the incisions.

Usually, an overnight stay is required for monitoring purpose. One week after the surgery, you will have a post-operative visit to remove the bandages.  The surgeon will give instructions for the speedy recovery and home care as you fly back home.
