Abdominoplasty (Tummy Tuck) Surgery in India

Abdominoplasty is one of the most commonly performed aesthetic procedures. Abdominoplasty, also known as tummy tuck surgery, is a cosmetic surgery that removes excess skin and fat, tightens the muscles to give a flat, firm, well-toned appearance of the abdomen. However, this procedure is not an alternative to weight loss.

Abdominoplasty - Eligibility

A tummy tuck surgery is suitable for:

  • Individuals who were obese in the past, have now lost a lot of weight and have loose skin and fat deposits in the abdominal region.
  • Women who have stretched skin and muscles after several pregnancies.
  • People who are physically healthy and have a stable weight.
  • Individuals who understand the procedure outcomes and have realistic expectations.
  • Non-smokers who are bothered by their appearance of the abdomen.

Abdominoplasty is not recommended for people who:

  • Plan to lose a lot of weight.
  • Might get pregnant in the future.
  • Body mass index that's greater than 30.
  • Smoke.
  • Have been diagnosed with severe chronic conditions, like diabetes or heart diseases.
  • Previously had an abdominal surgery that caused a scar tissue.

Abdominoplasty - The Procedure

The duration of the procedure can vary from one to five hours, based on the desired results. General anesthesia will be administered to make the patient unconscious.

A complete abdominoplasty requires a horizontal incision in the region between the belly button and the pubic hairline. The length and shape of the incision can vary according to the amount of excess skin. The abdominal skin is then lifted, and the underlying weak abdominal muscles are repaired.

Sometimes, a second incision around the navel may be done to take out the excess skin in the upper abdomen. The surgeon will pull down the upper abdominal skin, trim the excess skin, and suture the remaining skin. A new opening is made for the belly button; the belly button is popped to the surface and sutured into place.

The patient must have a family member or a friend to drive them home after the procedure and give company at home at least for the first night after the surgery.
