Latest Update- Himachal Pradesh is presently receiving its first snowfall of the season, in a latest update regarding snowfall in the region. Ever since Tuesday night, Himachal Pradesh has been receiving intermittent snowfall which has covered 12 of its districts in a blanket of snow. In addition to the rains and hailstorm that the state witnessed on Wednesday, Himachal Pradesh has seen a drop in the temperature, making the region even cooler. After an episode on Thursday, the state received moderate to heavy snowfall which covered the stretch of 5 kilometers between Kufri and Fagu districts, leading to the shutting of 240 roads including 6 national highways, and led to disruptions in around 677 transformers in the region. The maximum number of roads that remain blocked included 165 roads from the districts of Kinnaur, Lahaul, and Spiti. Although major disruptions are being faced due to road blockages, this weather change is being considered a boon for the fruits and vegetable farmers in the region who faced losses due to a continuous dry spell. Himachal Pradesh is also benefiting from this weather change as it is hoping to see an influx of tourists planning to visit to witness the snowfall, according to the President of the Shimla Hotel and Tourism Stakeholders Association. With the state witnessing intermittent snowfall, the top places that might see a rush of tourists in Himachal Pradesh include the destinations of Narkanda, Kufri, Shimla, Manali, Rohtang, Sangla, Dalhousie, and Khajjar.

Fresh Snowfall in Himachal Pradesh

The residents of the northern plains woke up to a foggy and chilly morning on 27th January, Saturday. The latest snowfall in Himachal Pradesh affected several rail operations in the northern region with a minimum temperature of 5.0 degrees Celsius in Delhi. On Sunday, Delhi recorded a minimum temperature of 6.0 degrees Celsius in the morning. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has also forecast fresh snowfall in Himachal in the upcoming days.

Snowfall Witnessed in Himachal Pradesh

Light snowfall started on 26th January, Friday which ended with prolonged snowfall in the areas around Himachal Pradesh. According to the reports of the regional meteorological department, snowfall was received at the northern side of Atal Tunnel in Kullu district, Bharmour and Pangi in Chamba district. Snowfall in Manali was also witnessed in the Solang Nala and Rohtang Pass regions. Light to moderate snowfall is very likely to happen over the areas in the upcoming days till February 03.
