Brahma Temple Pushkar

The Jagatpati Brahma Mandir is the temple of Hindus located at Pushkar in the state of Rajasthan. This temple is dedicated to creator God, Brahma and is the most prominent shrines of Pushkar.

The temple is made of stone stabs and marble. The red-colored shikara is a distinguishing feature of the temple and it also has a hamsa bird motif. Pillared canopies decorate the entrance of the temple. The outdoor hall of the temple is known as the mandapa and the interior of the temple is called the garbha griha. The walls inside the temple are inlaid with thousands of silver coins on which the devotees have written their names which marks as a sign of their offering to Lord Brahma. You will also notice a turtle made of silver which has been displayed on the marble floors of the temple. The central image of Brahma which is called the chaumurti is of a huge size adorning the garbhagriha of the temple. On the left side of the idol of Brahma sits the image of Gayatri and on the right hand side is the image of Savitri. The walls of the temple are decorated with lovely images of peacock and the Sarasvati’s mount. This holy temple of the Hindus is visited by a large number of devotees who come here from great distances of the country to offer their prayers.

History of the Temple

The Brahma temple of Pushkar is said to be 2000 years old. Although the original temple was destroyed during the rule of the Muslims, it was again re-built. The temple that we see today is said to have been built in the 14th century. It is believed that after Brahma’s yagna this temple was built by a sage named Vishwamitra. The temple had been renovated a number of times but it still retains its originality.

Getting There

The city of Pushkar is well connected to Ajmer via rail and airways. After reaching Ajmer the tourists have a number of options to reach Pushkar. You can avail any suitable local means of transportation as per your preference.

If you are visiting the temple on Kartik Poornima then you can participate in the grand festival held in the temple during this time. Many pilgrims from all over the world visit the place during this time to take bathe in the holy lake of the temple.

Opening/Closing Timings and days

The Brahma temple is open during the summer season from 5am to 1:30pm and then again from 3pm to 9pm.

During the winters the temple remains open from 6am to 1:30pm and then from 3pm to 8:30pm.

No entry fee is charged.

Best time to Visit

The holiday trip to Pushkar is best enjoyed in the months of July to March.
