Goddess Shakti is the manifestation Goddess Durga who is counted amongst the prime deities of Pondicherry. Besides the significance, the temple is also known for its unique architecture which boasts a perfect blend of both traditional Deccan architecture of India and French style of design.

Inside the temple complex, there is a large effigy of Lord Ganesha along with the presiding deity of the temple. Along with that, the interior of the sanctum also includes motifs on the granite pillars. Moreover, the arched temple walls are beautifully adorned with the designs of angels and various heavenly creatures. Besides, the magnificent architecture of Kanniga Parameswari Temple includes stained glass panes that are typification of French shrines.
