Janki Kund Chitrakoot

Janki Kund (a small tank or reservoir) is located about 2 km from Ram Ghat, another famous tourist attraction of Chitrakoot. Janki is another name for Goddess Sita and this place has been named after her. There are two temples located just behind the kund, namely, Sankat Mochan Hanuman Temple and Shree Raghuvir Temple. Across the kund lies the Pramod Van, whose presence plays a big role in enhancing the tranquillity of the place.

Devotees to this religious site in Chitrakoot hold it in the highest regard because it is believed to be the place where Goddess Sita would bathe during her stay in the jungle. One of the best ways of reaching Chitrakoot is by train. The nearest railway station is Chitrakoot Dham Karwi, which is situated at a distance of 11 km approx. After arriving at the railway station, you can hire a taxi or any other other private vehicle to reach this place. The driving distance should not take you more than 30 minutes.

By Air

Chitrakoot does not have its own airport. To reach it by air, therefore, you will have to land at Bamrauli Airport, which is situated in the city of Prayagraj (Allahabad). This is the nearest airport and is located at a distance of 116 km approx. After you land at the airport, you can hire a taxi or any other private vehicle to reach Chitrakoot. The entire drive should take you about 3 hours.

By Road

Chitrakoot is located in close proximity to several cities like Varanasi (246 km), Vindhyachal (171 km), Prayagraj (Allahabad) (115 km) and Ayodhya (270 km). It is connected to these cities via NH 35.
