In the year 2003, management of zoo inaugurated a natural history museum in a large hall in the veterinary hospital. People who don't want to indulge in a three-hour wildlife safari at Gir National Park can visit the Sakkarbaug Zoo as here one can spot Asiatic lions roaming freely. Some of the fauna include panther, deer, antelope, wild boar, blue bull, black buck, and spotted deer. Objective of the Sakkarbaug Zoo is to protect the animals in captivity and also to educate the people about the endangered and rare species of the earth.
