Jama Masjid Junagadh

Jama Masjid is an inseparable historic symbol of Junagadh, built in the year 1423 by the Ahmedabad's founder Ahmed Shah I. The monument is the most recognized structure of Junagadh; the mosque has an open courtyard, floored with white marble and has a tank for ritual purposes. Structure and arcades of the mosques are built of yellow sandstones and carved with intricate details. 260 columns and 15 domes support the roof of the mosque, making a walk through the hall a beautiful maze of light and shadows. Central domes of the mosques are carved like a lotus flower, closely related typical domes of Jain temples. One should visit Jama Masjid when on a trip to Junagadh as it is a stunner to behold.
