Belur Math in Kolkata

Some 10 km North from the downtown of Kolkata, Belur Math is the headquarter of the popular Hindu religious organization, Ramakrishna Math and Mission. Founded by Swami Vivekananda, it is one of the major religious landmarks in Kolkata. Besides being a popular pilgrimage site in Kolkata, Belur Math is known for its impressive architecture. Sprawling over a large area of 40 acres of land, the Math depicts a perfect fusion of Islamic, Hindu, Buddhist, Christian art motifs symbolising the unity amongst all religions.
