Thanthania Kalibari is one of the most popular pilgrimage sites in Kolkata. Dedicated to Goddess Siddheswari, one of the many forms of Goddess Kali, the temple was built by Shankar Ghosh. It is counted amongst one of the oldest Hindu sacred sites in Kolkata. One of the key highlights of this famous temple in Kolkata is the idol of the presiding deity which is built of clay and painted every year with red and black. It is also interesting to know that every year, the idol of the deity is replaced by a new one, while the old one is immersed. Throughout the year, this Goddess Kali temple celebrates numerous Hindu festivals that draw not just devotees but tourists as well. Tuesdays and Saturdays are considered highly auspicious to visit Thanthania Kalibari Temple.
