About Chardham Yatra
One of the ways of attaining Moksha and receiving the divine blessings of the Lord is embarking on a Char Dham Yatra. For centuries, Hindus have been taking this yatra, as doing so is believed to wash away one’s sins. In fact, Adi Shankaracharya, the famous Hindu philosopher, broke free from the cycle of birth and death in the Shri Badrinath Dham. There are four pilgrim destinations, namely Yamunotri, Gangotri, Kedarnath and Badrinath.
These are collectively known as Char Dham in Uttarakhand. The yatra begins from Yamunotri and then proceeds to Gangotri followed by Kedarnath and Badrinath. Each of these pilgrimage destinations is dedicated to a particular deity. While Yamunotri is dedicated to Goddess Yamuna, and Gangotri to Goddess Ganga. Kedarnath is dedicated to Lord Shiva and Badrinath to Lord Vishnu.
