Yes, it is safe to trek in the Indian Himalayas in the autumn season. By October, the rainfall in the Indian Himalayas ends completely making it quite safe to travel and trek.
In the autumn, you can expect a clear blue sky which means no rain. The temperature goes down and even the daytime starts to get cold. Some high altitude destinations also start to receive snowfall in this season.
In high altitude destinations, it starts to snow in the month of October. Ladakh too starts to witness snowfall in the autumn month of October. However, in the lower regions of Uttarakhand, Himachal, Jammu & Kashmir, and Sikkim, snowfall is mostly expected by the end of November or the beginning of December.

The autumn season is amongst the busiest months in the Indian Himalayas with easy, moderate, and difficult treks inviting adventurers for an adventure of a lifetime. Har Ki Dun, Dayara Bugyal, Chopta Chandrashila, Phulara Ridge, Kedarkantha, Gaumukh-Tapovan are the top treks to do in Uttarakhand.
