About Gulabi Kantha Trek

Amid the Great Himalayas and situated at an altitude of approx 12000 ft above the sea level is Gulabi Kantha. Explorers who have a craze for trekking know that this lush green meadow beautifies the path that leads to Gulabi Kantha. While trekking, one is surrounded with Bandarpunch Peak, Kalindi Sirkala, Shivalik Mountains and Chaukhamba Peak which all lie in the Himalayan range. Even though this gorgeous place offers an adventurous trek, it still lies in the list of the untouched and lesser known trek of the trekking communities of India. This place came into knowledge of various news channels and they explored this gorgeous place with the help of various locals. The existence of this place intrigued a team of ITBP, Matli (Indo-Tibetan Border Police) to examine the place and decide whether it could be considered for the winter games like Skiing.

Even though this place has not been acknowledged, the beauty of this place lies in the vast variety of flora and fauna and the view of sunrise and sunset over the great Himalayas. Along with this, this place offers a great variety of adventure opportunities for the explorers who come around now.

Gulabi Kantha Trek (Detailed Itinerary)

Day 01: Delhi - Dehradun
In the night take an AC train/AC Volvo for Dehradun by 22:30 hrs. Overnight Journey.

Day 02: Dehradun to Hanuman Chatti Base Camp (165 kms/6-7 hrs)
Arrival at Dehradun by morning and from here meet our driver and we will start our journey from Dehradun railway station/Bus station. After 6-7-hour drive from the meeting point, we will reach our base camp- Hanuman Chatti. After reaching the base camp, you’ll be briefed about the trek and other logistics. Nothing is better than starting your trip with Bonfire and some organic dinner.

Day 03: Hanuman Chatti - Seema Thatch 10km, 5-6 hour
Today we’ll start our journey from the base camp to Seema Thatch at 8:00 am. During this 10 km trek, you’ll be served lunch at 2:00 pm in Kandola . We’ll be reaching Seema Thatch at 4:00 pm and call it a day by helping you check-in in your respective tents. In the evening, whilst you enjoy the gorgeous sunset, tea and snacks will be served. At 7:00 pm, under the stars you can enjoy your dinner with bonfire.

Day 04: Seema Thatch - Gulabi Kantha and back 5km one side (4 - 5 hour)
The main day has finally arrived. Today we’ll trek from Seema Thatch to Gulabi Kantha. Before we start the trek, you would not want to miss the sunrise at 5:30am. At 7:00 am we will have breakfast and start moving towards Gulabi Kantha (expected to reach by 8:00 am), a 5 km trek. After 4-5 hours we will reach the destination and at 1:00 pm packed lunch will be served. After the lunch, you can enjoy the beauty of nature by wandering in those lush green meadows and adore the panoramic 360 degree view of the snow covered mountains like Bandarpunch peak, Shivalik Mountains, Kalindi Srikala and Chaukhamba peak. After having a tea break here, we’ll move back to Seema Thatch camp are. There, at 7:00 pm, dinner will be served with local wine or a drink and have some music partnered with bonfire.

Day 05: Seema Thatch - Hanuman Chatti 10km (7 to 8 hour)
After having some breakfast, we will move towards Hanuman Chatti by doing a 10 km trek. On reaching Kandola at 1:00 pm, lunch will be served. We’ll reach Hanuman Chatti base camp by 4:00 pm. After doing a 7-8 hours trek, you will need some rest. While we call it a day there, you can share your experiences with other members of the group. At 7:00 pm dinner will be served which we’ll enjoy with music along with bonfire.

Day 06: Hanuman Chatti – Dehradun – Delhi
On day 5, we will return to the beautiful capital of Uttrakhand. We’ll leave at noon and by covering a 5-6 hour’s drive, we’ll reach Dehradun by evening and from here catch AC Train/AC Volvo for Delhi. Arrival at Delhi by 11:30 hrs.

  • Warm clothes: windproof jackets, fleece/full sleeve sweater, thermals, woolen cap and socks, mittens and scarf
  • Comfortable clothes: tee-shirts, trousers or tracks
  • Raincoat or poncho to avoid rains
  • Walking stick or trekking pole

What is best time to go for the trek?

Even though the place stays beautiful all year long, few explorers prefer the month of May and June. Also a Pre-Monsoon September and Post-Monsoon October will bring out the best of this place.

What is the difficulty level of Gulabi Kantha trek?

If you are a regular jogger, Gulabi Kantha trek will be easy for you but if you are not then also there is no problem. Doing regular walks and jogs for 20-25 minutes will prepare you for this trek. Usually, Gulabi Kantha trek is considered as easy to medium difficulty level.

What is the approx temperature during the trek?

Usually the maximum temperature is 20 degrees Celsius whereas the Minimum could be expected to reach a single digit number. The temperature will vary according to the month and the weather.

How much do we have to trek every day approximately?

The itinerary is designed in such a manner that an explorer will have to trek 7-10 km approximately, a day. The distance that we will be covering will be done with regular stoppages and with the availability of refreshments.

Who will lead and who all go with us?

A local tour leader with some helpers will be accompanying the explorers.

What are the minimum size and requirements for fixed departure?

For doing this trek, a minimum requirement is of 5 people. You will be informed about other explorers who will be present on the same date to do the trek. In case you want to do this trek with certain amount of people or friends, call us beforehand for the same.

Is the trek safe? Does the place has wild animals also?

This trek has visitors throughout the year. Tourists, adventurers and local villagers who are a resident of the nearby villages frequently do this trek.

Is it safe for women?

Definitely! Women are surely safe in this trek. The people residing in the area are of respecting nature for all and are god-fearing. The groups will be accompanied by the staff members. The women will be accommodated with women only and if there are no women on the trek other than one, then she will be allotted another tent.

Is the water safe to drink?

The water available is from natural resources and is safe yet pure to drink. Sometimes the natural water would not suit somebody, in that case travel with some sufficient amount of water. If you want to drink the natural water, your trek leaders and guides will know exactly from where you can drink and fill up your bottles.

Can I offload my backpack on a mule/porter. What are the charges for the same?

We provide an option for the trekkers who want to offload their bags at a charge of Rs. 250/- per bag and per day with the weight limit of 9kgs or less. We still advice to carry those essentials only which you really require during the trek.

How many trekkers will be in one tent?

Accommodation is provided according to the number of explorers going on this trek. The tents provided can accommodate up-to 3 people. Also the tents allotted will depend on the number of women going on this trek.

What level of fitness is expected from the trekkers?

The basic fitness level, both physically as well as mentally, is expected. This trek can be done by the first timers or someone who wants to familiarize with easy to medium altitude treks.

What is there in food menu during the trek?

Since vegetarian food is easy to digest in high altitudes, the food provided will consist of the same. Though the food will include some local delicacies, it will be tasty. The food will be provided at four intervals- breakfast, lunch, evening snack and dinner.

How to reach Hanuman Chatti?

The best way to reach Hanuman Chatti is by driving from Dehradun. Since it lies on the way to Yamunotri temple, you will have to start your journey from Dehradun and take the route towards Mussoorie and reach Barkot Town. 34 km away is Hanuman Chatti from Barkot. At Barkot you will find our trek guide present there to welcome you.
