  • Delhi

    • The trip starts with your arrival to the airport or railway station. This is followed by a warm welcome.
    • Then begin your drive to Haridwar. After arriving, complete your check in formalities.
    • Overlooked by the Garhwal Himalayas, Haridwar is nature’s gift to mankind. Purified by the holy waters of River Ganga which originates here, it is the gateway to the Char Dhams of Uttarakhand.
    • Its beautiful landscape is dotted with numerous religious sites, each with its own special significance. It boasts the kind of beauty which takes time to settle in, and when it does, completely immerses you in it.
    • Haridwar, which means, “Gateway to the Gods”, is also called by different names like Mayapuri, Kapila and Gangadwar. Shavitites prefer to call it Hardwar while Vaishnavites call it Haridwar.
    • It is one of the oldest living cities in India and finds a mention in almost all the ancient Hindu scriptures.
    • Haridwar also finds a mention in Ain-i-Akbari, written by the famous writer, Abul Fazl, in the 16th century under Akbar’s rule. In fact, this is where minting for copper coins were done.

    • It is also known as Brahmakund and is believed to stand at the very place where a drop of amrit (nectar) fell from the sky when it was being carried by Garuda, the celestial bird.
    • Har ki Pauri ghat is filled with tourists during the evenings when the famous Ganga Aarti is held.
    • Ganga Aarti is marked by the rhythmic chanting of mantras, lighting of diyas (earthen lamps) and ringing of bells in the temple.

  • Haridwar - Barkot

    • In the morning you will enjoy a drive to Barkot via Dehradun and Mussoorie.

    • Today’s day starts with a drive to Uttarkashi. You will cover a distance of 82 km approx.
    • The town of Uttarkashi is among the most visited tourist destinations in Uttarakhand.
    • Its landscape is dotted with several temples, with the most famous among them being the Lord Vishwanath Temple.
    • There are other temples dedicated to Lord Hanuman and Goddess Durga, in addition to temples dedicated to several deities including Parshuram, Annapurna, Dattatraya, Bhairav, Lakshmeshwar and Ekadash Rudra.
    • On the way, you will make a stop at Prakateshwar Cave.
    • A visit to these natural limestone caves promises to be an altogether different travel experience altogether.

    • According to the great Hindu epic, Mahabharata, the Pandavas, after the great Mahabharata War, were advised by Lord Krishna to atone for their sins for the crimes committed during the war.
    • Acting on the advise, they went in search of Lord Shiva. However, he did not want to meet them since he was annoyed with their actions.
    • To avoid meeting them, he went to Guptkashi in disguise of Nandi, the bull and his companion.
    • The Pandavas followed him to Guptkashi and ultimate recognised him.
    • When Bhima, one of the Pandava brothers, grabbed Nandi by the tail and tried to pull him out forcibly, the bull vanished into the ground.
    • He appeared later on as Lord Shiva in five different forms.
    • Here, Lord Shiva is revered as Vishwanath, which means, “lord of the universe”. Regional stones have been used in its construction.
    • The other famous temple, known as Ardhnarishwar Temple, is located just beside this temple.

  • Guptkashi - Sonprayag - Kedarnath

    • In the morning, set off by a car to Sonprayag via Guptkashi.
    • After arriving, begin the trek to Kedarnath Temple via Gaurikund, Bheem Bali and Garuechati.
    • Upon completion of this amazing trek, you will reach the temple. Perform a pooja, enjoy the darshan of the Lord and seek his blessings.
    • The town of Kedarnath is the most ancient of all the Char Dham Pilgrimage Sites in Uttarakhand. It is most famous for the Kedarnath Temple.
    • Situated in the lap of the Himalayan ranges, it is enveloped by snow-capped mountains, with the most famous among them being Mt. Kedarnath.
    • The origins of the temple remains uncertain even today, with various sources attributing it to different periods.
    • According to the Hindu mythological epic, Mahabharata, it was the Pandava brothers who constructed the temple.
    • It also finds a mention in the Skanda Purana where Kedar is mentioned as the place where Lord Shiva released the holy waters of River Ganga from his matted locks. This is also how the river came into existence.
    • The temple is a part of the Chota Char Dham pilgrimage in India. Another interesting fact is that it is the highest among the 12 Jyotirlingas.
    • Inside the hall of the temple, you will find the lingam which is unlike one you have seen before because of its irregular dimensions.
    • There is also a pillared hall which contains statues of the five Pandavas brothers, Nandi the Bull, Lord Krishna and Lord Veerabhadra, who is a bodyguard and personal protector of Lord Shiva.
    • The temple is also famous for an interesting tradition whereby the rituals and other religious duties are carried out by the head priest (known as Raval) who belongs to the Veerashaiva community from Karnataka.
    • The mantras which are uttered in honor of the Lord are conducted in the Kannada language, a custom which has been followed for hundreds of years.
