Tibet’s world famous regions attract thousands of tourists every year. Be it pilgrimage, adventure, scenic views and so on, tourists have multiple reasons to visit these places. Nagqu, on the other hand is not a popular place to visit in Tibet, however its snow-clad mountains ranges, unpolluted pasture, picturesque lakes, rock paintings, unique tradition and culture makes it a strong reason to plan a trip. With considerably sparse population, it offers utmost peace for travellers with less point of interests on a sightseeing tour though. Locals here are quite forthcoming and hospitable. Nagqu is also an influential region in Tibet in terms of politics and economics. The temperature remains cold throughout the year, and due to its large plain lands sandstorms are quite frequent. Wildlife enthusiasts also have a strong reason to visit Nagqu. It is home to various rare wild species such as yaks, antelopes, snow panthers etc.
One of the most popular attractions in Nagqu is the sacred Namsto Lake, which is considered as the highest Salt Lake in the world. Visitors can simply soak into its beauty and relax while sitting on the banks of the lake. The other best places to visit are Shodain Monastery, Zhoima Canyon Scenic Spot, Purugangri Glacier, North Tibet Grassland etc. Nagqu is also famous for Tibetan shows and the annual Horse racing competition, witnessing which is considered to be one of the top things to do here. The competition is all about presenting various performances by the horses and the riders which is fun to watch on any Nagqu Tibet tour. Being a cold region, the best time to visit is reckoned to be between May to September as the temperature is bearable. It can be best combined with the Lhasa while looking for the best tourism packages for Tibet as the closest airport is in Lhasa.
