Madikeri
:
A picturesque town in Kodagu (formerly called Coorg) in the state
of Karnataka, Medikeri is situated at an elevation of 1,525 meters
above sea level and is often dubbed as the Scotland of India. Known
for its aromatic coffee, Medikeri has been blessed by mother nature
with wooded mountain trails, pretty wild flowers, winding lanes
that disappear into the hillsides, cascading waterfalls and gurgling
streams. The local populace, the Coorgis, are direct descendents
of the Greeks, and to date their attire and customs are unique.
Medikeri is the district headquarters of Kodagu.
Climate:
Salubrious. Cool and pleasant. Avoid the monsoons which
are from June to September.
Getting
there:Kodagu is not connected by air or rail. It can only
be accessed by road. Regular buses also ply between Mysore, Mangalore,
Hassan, Arsikere, Belur, Chikmagalur, Cannanore and Tellicherry.

Fort
In The center of Madikeri, this 19th century fort houses a
temple, a chapel, the prison and a small museum. The fort also offers
a beautiful view of Madikeri.
Raja's
Seat
According to legend, the kings of Kodagu spent their evenings here.
But what's unforgettable about Raja's seat is the spectacular sunset
that one can enjoy from here.
Sriomkareshwara Temple Situated to the west of
the fort lies Shiva temple built in 1820 is a mixture of Islamic
and Gothic styles.
The Abbey Falls
A great picnic spot located about 7 kms from Medikeri amid
a valley of coffee and cardamom plantations. Here, the gushing waterfall
water drops from 70 ft.
