Authorities To Revive Chikhaldara Tourism Festival
There was time when Chikhaldara tourism festival was celebrated with great pomp and show, but it was suspended when the then MLA Dr. Sunil Deshmukh lost elections in 2009. Now that Sunil is again back as an MLA, he is leaving no stone unturned to revive the festival. He and the sitting MP Anand Adsul are putting in great efforts to organize this festival, which will ultimately promote Chikhaldara and Maharashtra tourism. This three-day festival will start from January 9, 2015.
Collector Kiran Gitte said “In a recently held meeting, it was decided to revive the festival with the assistance of MTDC. The revival will also promote Chikhaldara hill station among tourists.” He said that the festival’s structure was discussed in detail and the MTDC has been told to advertise it using social media and appropriate mediums.
“The priority is to draw more tourists,” said MLA Deshmukh, who was also present in the meeting. He added that forest department has given its nod for jungle safaris and fort trips on elephant backs. Mr. Deshmukh also plans to develop Musondi, Amzari, Memna, Jatradoh and Kalalpur as trekking routes.
The attractions of this vibrant festival will be Lawani dances, ghazals, SCZCC’s cultural programs, adivasi dances and an exhibition of their art, a Melghat marathon and kite flying. There will also be tents for tourists, stalls of SHGs and exhibition on biodiversity of the place.
Chikhaldara hill station, situated in Amravati district of Maharashtra, is a true delight to eyes. Its history dates back to the time when Bheema killed the evil Keechaka and brought peace to the town. Vaunting scenic beauty, it is the only hill station in the Vidarbha region. One can also relish the diverse wildlife of the region that includes bear, sambar, leopards and boars.
The places worth exploring in Chikhaldara are Narnala Fort, Prospect Point, Hurricane Point and Devi Point. And since the accommodation is easily available due to the presence of many small and large hotels, tourists’ experience of vacationing in the region becomes even more cherishable. Some known hotels in and around Chikhaldara are Harshwardhan Chikhaldara, MTDC Holiday Resort Chikhaldara, Satpura Retreat and Utkarsha Garden.
