The
sun-kissed beach at Ganapatipule and the lush green of
Ganapatipule inevitably draws tourists back to this wonderfull
beach year after year. The added attraction is a 400-year old
temple which houses the Swayambhu Ganapati. Set along the western
coast of Maharashtra, is a small little village, called Ganapatipule.
It is known for its serene, sedate beach. Unlike most beaches,
which are spoilt by tourist traffic, the Ganapatipule beach is
as natural and pristine as ever. Even today, the waters are blue
and the sand is white. Ganapatipule Beach is one
of the important beaches of Maharashtra located near Kolhapur.
It is 375-km south of Mumbai.
Ganapatipule
is one of the Ashta Ganapatis (eight Ganapatis)
of India and called the Paschim Dwar - Dewata
(Western Sentinel God).
HOW
TO REACH THERE:
Some of the interesting excursions spots are, Malgund, the birthplace
of Keshavsoot, the Marathi poet. Ratnagiri, the birthplace of
Lokmanya Tilak, and The baw Place, where the deposed king of Burma
was confined. Jaigad Fort and Swami Swarupanand's Ashram in Pawas
are also worth a visit. Ratnagiri on the Konkan Railway is the
nearest railhead. Mumbai is 375 kms away by road while Pune is
331 kms away. Traveling to Ganapatipule by road is a vacation
in itself.
