Explore Ladakh’s remote Rupshu district, home of nomadic tribes, hidden forts, high passes and majestic yak. This area was first opened to foreigners in 1989, and has seen very little outside influence since that time. Over the course of 23 days, our trek takes us through deserted villages, wild desert scenery much like the American Southwest, and vast grasslands where herdsmen graze their yak.
With the easing of restrictions in the eastern part of Leh, it is now possible to visit the great wilderness around the lake of TSO Moriri in Rupshu southeast of Leh and to glimpse Tibet from the shores of Lake Pangong in the far east of Ladakh. Far more relaxing and inviting are the new trekking possibilities offered near these lakes.
