Hippie mood coupled with the best snorkeling, surfing and diving experience will make even a 90-year-old feel young again, such is the charm of Hikkaduwa. Since the late 90s, this small town in the extreme South of Sri Lanka has been a hotspot for tourists from around the world. The town hence has a very well-developed tourist industry which provides visitors with one of the best opportunities to experience fun water activities. Hikkaduwa has a lot to offer but its offshore coral reefs locally called as Coral Garden or Coral Sanctuary takes the trophy home for being the best sight. The reef is the home to a variety of colorful coral species, sea turtles, and beautiful tropical fishes. One can either rent scuba suits and snorkeling gears and go on to explore the place independently or can simply opt for a glass bottom boat, both of which promise to give you unforgettable experiences. Hikkaduwa Lake is another tourist destination to explore. Simply take the boat tour and explore the number of bird species and monitor lizards here. Tourists can also soak in the spirituality by visiting Gangarama Maha Vihara Buddhist temple and witness the spiritual side of Hikkaduwa.

Other nearby spots include Moonstone Mine which welcomes visitors, here one can explore the channels dug deep into the ground which yields semi-precious stones. Built on its own island, the temple Seenigama Vihara is a popular sightseeing spot and if all that was not enough feeding the turtles who come to the shores during low tides is an interesting thing to indulge in. So, pack your bags already to see the beauty of Sri Lanka through your own eyes.
